This session explores the critical role actuarial assumptions play in determining the financial health and sustainability of public pension plans. Participants will gain an understanding of how factors such as mortality rates, investment returns, salary growth, and retirement age directly influence the valuation process and funding requirements. The session will also discuss the implications of inaccurate or outdated assumptions and provide strategies for evaluating and updating assumptions to ensure reliable valuations.

The webinar is free for members and $50 for nonmembers.  Those who attend at least 50 minutes of the webinar and respond to at least 3 of the 4 polling questions will earn 1 CPE credit.

Speaker Bios

Brent Banister, PhD, FSA, EA, FCA, MAAA - CavMac




Brent Banister is the Chief Actuary at CavMac.  He has over 30 years of public sector actuarial and consulting experience providing services to all types of public clients.  Brent serves as lead consulting actuary for many State and Municipal level pension plans in the Midwest and other parts of the country.  As Chief Actuary of CavMac, Brent acts as the day-to-day actuarial resource for the firm.  He is also responsible for the actuarial training of junior staff.

P2F2 is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors.  For more information please visit www.nasba.org.  The webinar will be presented online in a Group Internet-based format.  This webinar is considered an update knowledge level.  There are no prerequisites and no advance preparation is required.  In keeping with NASBA requirements, P2F2 tracks attendance for CPE credit.  Attendees may earn 1 CPE credit in Business Management & Organization as long as they are logged in for at least 50 minutes and respond to at least 3 of the 4 polling questions spread throughout the webinar.  State Boards of Accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
