Teachers Retirement Association (TRA) has been providing pension coverage to Minnesota educators for decades, with a mission to help members and their beneficiaries plan for an independent and financially secure retirement. We are currently seeking job candidates with accounting or auditing experience for our Internal Auditor role.
Our Internal Auditor position exists to perform operational and employer payroll audits to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, audit and accounting standards, agency policies, and procedures. The incumbent will be tasked with performing audits of TRA records and business systems; performing audits of school district payroll records; assisting with business risk assessment and the preparation of TRA's annual audit plan; providing advice and consulting to internal and external stakeholders on internal controls; and serving as TRA’s agency fraud awareness coordinator. The position is part of a two-person team that is located in our St. Paul, Minnesota office.
This position may require travel to attend conferences. This position may be eligible for a work schedule that includes some teleworking.
Internal Auditor Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of professional level accounting or auditing experience. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field can substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.
Experience must demonstrate the following:
Successful candidates must also possess the ability to secure own transportation for conferences.
- Responsibility to analyze, interpret, reconcile, and audit financial data.
- Responsibility to diagnose problems and recommend solutions for process improvement purposes.
- Application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing principles in job responsibilities.
- Ability to train or explain complex financial concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to plan, organize, and successfully manage competing priorities.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, WebEx, and/or equivalent software packages.
Internal Auditor Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
An Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Experience working with State of Minnesota government financial systems, such as SWIFT and SEMA4.
Experience working for a public pension fund or private financial services institution.
Proficiency in using Access, PowerPoint and QuickBooks.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
This position requires occasional transporting of articles such as file folders, ledgers and/or small tools. May be required to move or maintain a stationary position for long periods of time.
